The Golden Gate Dairy Stables

Our ranch setting is an integral part of our program.  Surrounded by thousands of acres of protected open space, the unique location of the Golden Gate Dairy Stables offers us countless opportunities to connect with the natural world, explore the beautiful coastal ecosystem and flow with the pace of nature.

Community

We pride ourselves on our Green Horse Keeping principles, strive to raise awareness on environmental stewardship, and caring for the land that cares for our horses is woven into the fabric of our curriculum.  We are fortunate to have Green Gulch Farm as our neighbors and enjoy the symbiotic relationship of sharing our horse manure with them.  Every day we deliver our manure directly to the compost piles where it is ‘seasoned’ before enriching the fields of organic vegetables and flowers.

History

Not so long ago, Marin County was full of ranches and dairies. At the turn of the 19th century, there were nearly 300 dairies in Marin County, and by the mid-19th century, Marin County supplied 25% of the butter in the State of California. Times have changed a bit since then, and we are fortunate to have one of the county’s original ranch properties that is not only rich with agricultural history but also in an area that was home to the Coastal Miwok.
